Weekly food waste collections will begin across Cannock Chase from 27 April as part of a government-backed recycling scheme.
Households should have already received a 23-litre kerbside caddy and a smaller seven-litre kitchen caddy, along with liners and instructions on how to use the service.
How the service works
The weekly collections will run alongside existing green and blue bin pickups. Once collected, the food waste will be taken to an anaerobic digestion plant where it will be converted into energy and fertiliser.
Why food waste matters
Food waste currently makes up around one third of all household rubbish in the district. According to the council, the average home throws away approximately £800 worth of edible food every year.
Joss Presland, Head of Operations, said the new service makes it easier for residents to recycle food waste and reduce their environmental impact.
