Residents of Rugeley and surrounding areas can enjoy a free session at Rugeley Leisure Centre during the autumn half-term break by showing a valid bus ticket on the day of entry.
The offer runs from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November 2026 and is available on all bus tickets throughout the half-term period. Over 16s can use the gym or swimming pool; under 16s can use the pool only. The offer does not include inflatables pool sessions.
How to book and use the offer
Over 16s must sign up online before travelling and enter 'bus travel' in the Extra information box on the Everyone Active webpage. Anyone under 16 can attend the leisure centre reception on the day and present their valid bus ticket with no advance booking required.
Part of a county bus travel study
Staffordshire County Council's transport team is running a year-long trial to understand how people use buses and to identify improvements. The scheme will test initiatives to improve bus service reliability, accessibility at bus stops, passenger information and raise awareness of available services. It will also explore how fare offers and promotions could encourage more people to use buses for everyday journeys.
The leisure centre offer has been created in partnership with Cannock Chase Council's leisure services to raise awareness of the project and demonstrate how easy it is to use buses in and around Rugeley.
Share your views on bus services
Staffordshire County Council is running a public survey to understand how people travel and what changes would encourage greater use of bus services. Residents are encouraged to complete the survey online.
Andrew Mynors, Cabinet Member for Connectivity at Staffordshire County Council, noted that Rugeley's local attributes make it an ideal location for the initiative. He added that half-term events taking place in Rugeley, including the Halloween Market in Market Square on Saturday 31 October, make the town a good opportunity to try local bus services as a travel option.
